This web site
was developed to help bring vacationers and property owners together
to create an easier way of finding and reserving vacation rentals
in Maine - especially during periods of peak interest. Maine's
popular summer season usually begins the last of May and winds
down with the passing of the foliage colors in mid-October. However,
Maine's winter season kicks in and the population shifts to Maine's
ski sloped mountain areas.
Due to the
popular nature of vacation properties in Maine, it is best to
begin planning your vacation as soon as possible. This web site
allows you to search through lots of rental properties throughout
Maine and then request a reservation
on your top three (3) favorites.
It is important
to understand that this web site is not
a live reservation system. Because many of Maine's
vacation property owners are privately owned, they are not typically
equipped with reservation systems which update online AND off-line
reservation requests. Therefore, this system is designed to allow
you to request a reservation only.
The request
is then reviewed by the property owner and will be accepted if
they are not already booked. However, once accepted, that time
period will be reserved on this system and no additional requests
can be made to that property at that time.
Once
your reservation has been accepted, it becomes active and an 8%
holding fee will be charged to your credit card to hold the reservation
on the system. This fee is nonrefundable and is credited
towards your rental deposit (usually 50%) which is paid directly
to the property owner. The renter and the property owner are now
connected to make final payment arrangements.
When you make
a reservation request, you will receive email updates on the status
of that request. Each request may contain up to three "ranked"
favorite properties. You must select
which is your first, second or third choice or the system will
rank them in the order which you added them.
Once you submit
your reservation request, it will automatically be sent to the
property owner of your first choice for review. If accepted, your
holding fee is charged and the steps described above take place.
If the request is declined, and you have a second choice option,
the request will automatically move the the property owner of
your second choice. And, if once again declined, then on to your
third.
